Bringing the Storybook to Life: A Custom “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” 2nd Birthday Setup

There’s something extra-heartwarming about toddler birthdays. At age 2, everything is new, exciting, and just a little bit magical — especially when the theme is one of the most beloved children’s books of all time: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
When Isaac’s mom reached out, she had a clear vision: she wanted the party to feel like stepping right into the pages of Laura Numeroff’s classic story, complete with cookies, a mischievous little mouse, and of course… balloons!
We couldn’t wait to make it happen.
The Concept: A Giant Storybook Backdrop
The star of the show? A completely custom oversized “book” backdrop that looks like the actual cover of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. We hand-painted the iconic chocolate-chip cookies, added the famous red handwritten title, and gave the whole piece that soft, storybook texture. On the bottom “page” we added Isaac’s name and “Age 2” in crisp black lettering so everyone driving by would know exactly who the celebration was for.
The Details That Made It Pop
A life-sized cutout of the overalls-wearing mouse (complete with a half-eaten cookie, naturally)
A giant Crayon balloon sculpture leaning against the book — because every good story needs a little color!
An organic balloon garland in the book’s soft color palette: warm neutrals, sage green, dusty blue, and pops of cookie-brown
Plenty of round “cookie” balloons scattered throughout for that playful touch
The Result?
Pure childhood magic in a back yard.
Watching the setup come together was one of those moments that reminds us why we do this — seeing a beloved book leap off the page and into real life, knowing a little two-year-old (and his guests) would feel like the main character in their very own story.
